Geohot rules yet again! He was the one to have unlocked the iPhone first generation phone back in 2007 and now, he is back with more! This time it is iPhone 3GS that is unlocked and jailbroken by the hacking maestro (He wrote the jailbreak tool while unlock tool ultrasn0w is written by the Dev Team).
Without further ado, lets welcome the new Jailbreak tool for Windows (Mac version soon) machines.
Follow these steps closely :
1) You should have an iPhone 3GS to start with! iPhone 3G owners should follow this guide instead.
2) Download or make sure you have the latest iTunes version 8.2 for Windows.
3) You have to use either Windows XP or Windows Vista for Purplera1n. Windows 7 support is coming soon.
4) If you qualify the 3 steps above, download purplera1n(an awesomely designed 394 KB tool, by far the slimmest version of Jailbreak!).
5) Connect your iPhone 3GS to your computer and double click purplera1n.exe that you just downloaded. Now click on make it ra1n.
6) Let purplera1n do its magic (It will put your iPhone 3GS in recovery mode and will install Freeze on your iPhone.)
(If the infamous windows crash message appears, close it and launch purplera1n again. It will start from where it last crashed! The entire jailbreak took less than 2 minutes! Awesome job Geohot!)
(Turn WiFi ON on your iPhone for faster Cydia installation)
7) Launch Freeze on your iPhone and install Cydia! It couldn’t be simpler! If you don’t see Freeze on your iPhone reboot your iPhone.
9) Reboot your iPhone 3GS for full unlock glory! Wait for the signal to show up! It works great! Props to Dev Team and the famous Geo!

p.s : Winterboard is causing the iPhone 3GS to boot in Safe Mode. Stay away from most of the Cydia apps. SBSettings works great. Any app that is dependent on Mobilesubstrate may cause some issues (Safe Mode).
Ultrasn0w is causing some issues with WiFi at the moment. Please proceed cautiously.
This fact cannot stressed enough! Every time people are warned about updates from Apple disabling Jailbreak / Unlock , some people still end up accidentally updating via iTunes. Why take a chance while you can get the new iPhone firmware goodness with a few days wait?
Launch iTunes, Click on Preferences – > Under General Tab Uncheck ‘Check for new software updates automatically‘. Wait for a confirmed jailbreak and unlock for the newly released firmware and then update.
Apple gifted all iPhone 3GS owners with an exploit so that we can jailbreak and unlock our iPhone 3GS to our heart’s content. But here is the catch! The exploits WILL be closed in the next firmware upgrade which is due any minute now.
So here is the thing : PLEASE DO NOT UPGRADE TO iPHONE 3.1 before performing the following procedure (if you want to unlock/jailbreak that is!). Dev Team is waiting for the next release (iPhone 3.1) so that the Apple will not close the jailbreak exploit. Jailbreak for iPhone 3G S will be released soon.

Geohot has done it yet again! He managed to break the chain of trust which means he broke into Apple’s territory on the iPhone 3G S. As soon as the iPhone 3G S is jailbroken, that signals an unlock solution in the waiting since both the 3G flavors of the iPhone share a similar baseband 4.26.08! The ‘S’ in 3G S which stands for Speed can now be experienced by the entire jailbreak community soon!

Launch iTunes 8.2 and update to the latest firmware version 3.0, be it for your iPhone 2G,3G or iPod Touch 1G/2G
Free your iPhone 3G 3.0 from Apple’s chain by jailbreaking your iPhone which provides you with various customization features and even unlock feature which Apple and your official carrier hate! There are various options available to achieve this level of customization on your iPhone such as download firmware files, bootloader files, jailbreak/unlock tools such as Redsn0w/Pwnage or QuickPwn.
If you are not the one to download all the various files and just want the ultimate result, these files are waiting for you to download! If you rather want to start from scratch, this guide is for you.
Caution #1 :Â Please proceed further only if you have an iPhone 3G. For all other devices, there is an other post in the works.
