iPhone Unlocked – WiFi,iPod Works with T-Mobile SIM

30 June 2007 72 Comments

Update : All iPhones (2G, 3G, 3GS) can now be unlocked and Jailbroken. Follow these guides!

After iPhone launch fever, interesting details are popping up all over the internet. I was browsing to see if someone managed to unlock their iPhone and we can already see efforts headed in the right direction. A company reports that they have unlocked 2000 iPhones as I write this article. They are asking you for your email as well as the IMEI number. ZDNet says that they get Incorrect SIM: This iPhone must be used with an approved SIM error but WiFi reportedly works with a T-Mobile SIM. Apple is planning to release the same iPhone all over the world, hence a custom Mac OS X for iPhone reportedly exists and unlocking your iPhone can be a breeze!

Update : Alex King claims to have cancelled A&T service without losing a penny and is now using the iPhone both as an internet device (N800) and an iPod!! The phone part needs few tweaks which are being worked on 🙂iPhoneWorks.jpg

    hi,
i want to buy iPhone from USA. One of my friend is going to buy for me. As far as i understand from the forums that i read , when u but iPhone u have to make contract with ATT for 2 years but you are able to cancel it in 3 days without paying any cent. And also you can unlock it with current hack software but there is some problems when you upgrade firmware. Each time Apple publish upgrade, hackers start to work on it and they have solution for almost all version of firmware

My question isto be able to make that contract what kind of requirements they have? And when you cancel the contract, ATT makes trouble or it is totally ok?

  • Kiran said:

To cancel a contract is definitely not as easy as you said. If that was possible, we would see so many more iPhones floating around. I am afraid its not that easy 🙁 Why would you even sign a contract to get an iPhone? Buy it from apple since its the same price everywhere…

I have iphone unlocked and working fine with my T-Mobile sim. I want to know if its OK to update the software/applications thru Cydia?? Someone warned me that if i do, the phone will get locked again…please help…

  • kiran said:

Zafar : It doesn’t hurt to update apps on Cydia. You can even use iTunes to update to 2.0.2 firmware and still unlock your iPhone afterwards!

I am planning on getting my boyfriend the new iphone for his birthday and I wanted to know if it was possible or hard to unlock the new iphone because he has t-mobile and i don’t want him to switch providers and I don’t think he does either.

  • kiran said:

Jakkelyne : The only possible way right now is a Turbo SIM which you can buy for $20 on eBay. Slightly tricky but not impossible 🙂 Surprise him this birthday!

p.s : You can either buy an iPhone on eBay (no contract) or Apple store (2yr contract while buying)… Check your options…

I was just thinking of buying the phone at best buy, can’t I buy it from there without an AT&T contract? Also if I buy that Turbo SIM I’m guessing this works with T-mobile right?

  • kiran said:

BestBuy won’t let you buy without contract 🙁 TurboSIM should work just fine with T-Mobile.
