Confirmed iPhone Video Screenshots in newer Firmware – Great Quality!

22 April 2008 One Comment

We have all been using Ripdev’s find for taking screenshots on your 1.1.4 iPhone using the (toggle mute button + holding home button) trick. Apple no longer hides the screenshot facility in the beta firmware (iPhone 2.0 beta 5A240d build)

Just hold the Power/Sleep button and then hold the home button until you see a white flash like screen. The screenshots are saved in your camera roll (Photos) in PNG format.

Now for the best part : it is capable of capturing greater details of a frame in the videos – be it Youtube, iPod Videos or even Streaming Quicktime video! There you go, a powerful feature which was only available in some pc/mac video apps is now available on the iPhone without the need for any hacks! The next time you want a new wallpaper, go for the power button + home button trick!

The quality of the screenshot depends on the quality of the video as usual, better the quality, better the wallpaper!

Lot of goodies in store this June ‘08 (Save image in Safari, Landscape Calculator, Push Email/Calendar, Push Contacts to name a few!)..

p.s : The screenshots you see here are from Youtube, Apple.com/trailers, Streaming Media sites and iPod videos..
