hello there!!
yes its very simple to do so, just go to settings then go to notifications then you will see the icon message tap on that then it will show 3 figures of iphones on the bottom of each figure it will say none , banners , and alerts, click on the one that says none !! then your messages wont show anymore it only will show that you got one message or whatever amount of meaasges your receiving .

i was having the same problem with my iphone now its fixed!!

im sure it will work for you.
if some reason it does not then go to any ATT&T store and ask for help. they were the ones to show me how to do so.
