Mirxa : Greetings! I am positive that 2.8 downgrade will be possible soon if not in the next few days. Once the exploit is found, we are good to go!

Hey! I am new to this forum so would like to say hello and a good job a keeping the ihopne users up to date about the news etc. I got my self an Iphone 3g and realized that it had the baseband 2.28 update on it already. Had i known about this earlier i would have probably gotten my self a 1st gen iphone anyways now i am stuck with it.... I also know that the software method to unlock it is out or will be by the iphone dev team. I would however like to know that IF it will be ever possible for them or anyone to unlock the baseband 2.28 or for that matter to downgrade it. I am assuming you are well aware of this than i am and would like to know if this would ever be a possibility or can it be. Currently i managed to jail break the phone and got my self a REBEL sim card to use it on a different network but there are always issues like loosing the signal or something or the other. Nothing like a software unlock. Thanks and looking to hearing from you soon!! Ciao!

Steve : I haven't used this script (it is a python script). I am sure you should be able to use it on Windows but you have to research on Python and Windows since I am more into Macs.

Uninstall iTunes. Again, not sure how it works with Windows since you have to delete some more files other than uninstalling (Googling helps again).

Hope you get your data back!

Hi Kiran,

Thanks.

I am on Windows XP. Will that decoder work on a windows platform? Yes I am most concerned with my Calendar entries, NOTES and Contacts information.

If I can get away with restore my files, then I would be fine with staying with 2.0 (which I was able to do--would rather stay away from 2.2 since its having problems)

How do I restore the older version of iTunes? Currently it is at 8.0.

I will look into this decode and see if I can use it.

Thanks.

Steve : If you are on a Mac, this nifty little tool might be of assistance if your data is all you are worried about : http://code.google.com/p/iphone-backup-decoder/ This file decodes the data and lets you view and edit them..

On a Mac : /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

Windows machine :

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\SyncServices\Local

The file "data.syncdb" is the backup file.

Never tried force restoring the backup. Haven't tried going back to 1.1.4 from 2.x either. Older iTunes version might do the trick.

Hi Kiran,

Thanks for your reponse.

Yes I am a legit iPhone user.

I am wanting to restore to 1.1.4 not 2.2. I upgraded to 2.2. I already tried restoring to the oldest file on the list, which was in 5/2008y (i think thats when i got the phone, the only other restore file is from 11/24/2008, the night when I installed Jailbreak and that doesn't have any of the old settings and is at 2.2). The silent backup I need is from 11/22/2008 and is not listed.

After trying either of those restores, the phone is still at 2.2. But do I also need to restore iTunes to the previous release (prior to 8.0) to get the silent backup from 11/222008? Do you know where these silent backups are stored? Maybe I can find the folder/directory and see if there is anything there and its just hidden.

Thanks again.

Steve : I am assuming you are a legit iPhone user.

Best bet is to RESTORE the iPhone to 2.2 using iTunes and then while setting it up (after restore process), it shows you all available silent backups previously taken on the first screen. Hope it helps, good luck...
