Download Custom Firmware 3.1.3 IPSW – Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS [Mac + Windows]

iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS users can now safely update to 3.1.3 firmware without updating the baseband (for unlock). If you are not the one to download all the various files and just want the ultimate result, these files are waiting for you to download! If you rather want to start from scratch, download Pwnage 3.1.5 tool for Mac.
- Caution #1 : A restore is going to wipe the iPhone clean. Hence, please backup your iPhone using iTunes and then proceed.
- SUPER CAUTION : iPhone 3GS Owners, please read this thoroughly before proceeding further. If you are already at 3.1.3, this is not going to work. If you rely on blacksn0w for unlock (if you have 5.11.07 baseband, you are better off without 3.1.3 for now.
- If you bought your iPhone recently (if it has the new bootrom, please stop right here). If the 4th, 5th digits are greater than 39, it is more than likely that it has the new bootrom.
More info about these custom firmware files :
- Has factory boot logos (Apple and restore cable),
- Only Cydia, 660 MB Root Partition
- Preserved Unlock baseband (Your current baseband – be it 4.26.08 or 5.11.07 will stay the same)
- Activated/Not Activated (Check the files carefully)
Prerequisite (highly recommended) :
If your iPhone is already jailbroken at the current firmware (3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1), it will be a hassle free upgrade! Restore mode will work just fine with already jailbroken iPhones. So, try jailbreaking your iPhone before you proceed.

Step 2) Join the downloaded files
- The files downloaded above have an extension .001 and .002. They need a special opensource (free) software HJSplit to join.
- Download HJSplit to join both the files – Link for Windows Computers here and Macs here.
Step 2a) Verify the final file size of the joined IPSW file

p.s : Mac [Snow Leopard] and Windows and other OSes may show the same file as different sizes in their respective systems since 1 MB is treated as 1000 KB in some OSes and 1024 KB in the rest!
Step 3) Restore the firmware in iTunes 9.x
- You should now have the respective firmware file with an extension .ipsw (make sure it is .ipsw or else, it will give you an invalid firmware error) . Follow the steps in order :
- 1)Launch iTunes and connect the iPhone to your Mac / Windows computer.
- 2)If your iPhone is already jailbroken (if you have Cydia on your iPhone), put your device in Restore mode (Turn iPhone off, keep holding Home button while you plug it in to your computer). Proceed to step 7. If not jailbroken already, continue to the next step (3).
- 3)If you are aware of DFU mode, proceed further. If not, watch this quick video and pay close attention to the steps to achieve DFU mode.
- 4)Turn your iPhone off. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
- 5)After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
- 6)The iPhone will show you a blank screen (black).
- 7)Click on ‘Ok’ to the prompt displayed.
- 8)For a Mac : Hold Option key and then hit Restore button.
- 9)For Windows : Hold the shift key and then hit the restore button.
- 10)In the dialog box that pops up, browse the downloaded custom firmware file (the .ipsw file that you downloaded and joined using hjsplit in step 1.x).
Step 4) Give it few minutes to perform the restore. Once the iPhone is up and running, proceed for software Unlock using Cydia. Follow this guide to install Ultrasn0w (for 4.26.08 baseband) to software unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS. If you have 5.11.07 baseband, blacksn0w RC2/RC3 (thanks Neema) should be used for unlock!
You are now good to go! Post a comment if you are stuck at any of the steps described above.

hey man something is wrong with my phone. All it does is show the apple logo and a blank screen then again apple logo followed by blank screen and so on. this is happening since the time I reset the network configurations on the phone. How do I get it to work again? when I try to restore to the original apple 3.1.2, it says cannot restore. When I try using the custom firmware 3.1.3, I get Error :1600

You have to push both Home and power buttons at the same time to turn it off.

Hello I have a 3 GS with 3.0.1 jailbroken and unlocked with Ulrasnow, I just have 2 questions pls:
1-If I use your custom IPSW to go to 3.1.3 will it be the same problem as jailbraking a 3gs with blackrain? If my battery dies or I turn off the phone it goes to recovery mode?
2-Can I use a custom IPCC file to activate my 3G with ATT as I am curently doing with 3.0?

1. Do you have that problem at 3.0.1? If yes, then yeah it will still be…(tethered jailbreak). If not you are good to go!
2. If you use the custom firmware, it will automatically activate your iPhone. ..No need of an ipcc file to do the same….

You should have proceeded with 3.1.3 only after you had the SHSH files stored
Anyway, as I understand your iPhone 3gs is at :.1.3 at 5.11.07 baseband is it? If yes, did you install blacksn0w from cydia? Did you turn 3g off?
If your iPhone uses tethered jailbreak at 3.0.1 then yes, it will be the same with 3.1.3. If not you are good to go with 3.1.3.
The custom firmware activates your iPhone 3gs, you don't have to use an ipcc file for that…
Please read cydia shsh part carefully before proceeding..

Saurik's SHSH depends on when you requested them and it should all be automatic IMO.
blacksn0w is the only option for 5.11.07 baseband. Did you try getting back to 3.1.2 baseband using Saurik's link?

You may use it only if you have SHSH files on Cydia. In other words, only if you launched Cydia and clicked on 'make my life easier' when using earlier firmware versions.

My friend accidentally updated his iPhone 3GS to 3.1.3 stock firmware.
I tried re-shift-restoring the firmware with custom firmware and the iTunes stays stuck on PREPARING IPHONE FOR RESTORE for about 4 minutes and then get error code 1604 I think.
Any thoughts, suggestions for concluding this frustrating chapter?

What do you mean SHSH? His phone has been restored and updated to 3.1.3 stock its at the emergency calls only screen

The method suggested here doesn't work for a 3GS with 5.11.07 baseband … I simply screwed up my iphone 3GS by updating to 3.1.3 activated custom firmware fromt he above link .. Now my 3GS has 5.11.07 baseband but blackra1n(snow) will not unlock it …

My Phone is 3GS 05.11.07 baseband, jailbroken and unlocked with blackra1n on 3.1.2 firmware.
The phone is stucked on the Apple logo when booting(last time) , and never comes up .
I did backup the SHSH on the current firmware but already when 3.1.3 was on Apple servers(did that from Cydia)
Ofcourse no way for restore to 3.1.2 and i dont want to lock my phone with official 3.1.3 , are those Custome files will work for me ?

Hi! You need to get to 4.26 baseband before this firmware. For that you may try using fuzzyband to upgrade baseband to 4.26.08 and then use these steps…

Is it a 2G/3G or 3GS iPhone?
You have to use 'Non Activated' in this case. You will have to use either ultrasn0w or blacksn0w depending on the baseband version.
If 3GS, then store the SHSH files before any 3.1.3 firmware process..
My device is a 3GS, has SHSHs on file for OS: 3.0, 3.1, 3.1.2 in cydia.

i modified the itunes file to communicate with cydia server instead of apple's.
my carrier is not an official one but i have an AT&T sim card.
i want to keep the unlock but want the Push Notification too.
so correct me if I'm wrong:
i can restore to the 3.1.3 "NOT ACTIVATED" firmware after i download it from this page, then put in the AT&T sim card to activate the phone, push notification will work, my modem firmware will stay at 04.26.08, and as usual I'll have to use ULTRASN0W to unlock.

Yes it will be. You will have to unlock using ultrasn0w once flashing the firmware is done. Make sure you store the SHSH files on Cydia first…

Yes you can use activated 3.1.3. I had the same config 3GS and updated yesterday. Works great now. Install ultrasn0w again to unlock. Down IPSW using IE not safari etc.

I assume you have already jailbroken your device. Just pay attention to your baseband and ignore the bootloader. Unlock it and enjoy!
I factory restored the iphone 3g to 3.0 stock. Then I used redsn0w jailbreak on the 3.0.
Then I saw this page for 3.1.3, so I downloaded the 3.1.3 custom restore activated for travel abroad.
Then I went to itunes and shift+restore with the custom activated 3.1.3. That's how I got this 06.02 bootloader and retained 4.26.08.
But since you say ignore the bootloader and check the baseband, I'm good to go when I install the ultrasn0w. Thanks Kiran!

What is the name of the file you downloaded? Did you attach the 2 files? What is your phone type – 3G or 3GS?

I didn't understand this part. All I can say is if you carefully update to 3.1.3 without updating the baseband, then you can jailbreak, unlock and use your iPhone any way you like..
I am hoping you saved the SHSH files on Cydia. If yes then we have no other option but to put 3.1.3 on it. If you do it via custom firmware then you should be good to go. Let me know if you need more help, I will help remotely.

After restoring a custom firmware, you don't have to jailbreak again. It does it automatically for you…

the part 2, 1st download gives me 64mb only but when i try to download again the part 2 it automatically overwrite the 64mb and finish around 100mb something

when i try to overwrite the file, the part 2 it becomes 127mb and when i join it it become 175mb total.
Looks like I did backed them up, it's my wife phone so I wasn't sure. I went ahead and put a 3.1.3 custom restore which worked great except I can't tether. When I run Cydia it tells me I have 3.1 and 3.1.2 SHSHs on file. So can I downgrade to 3.1.2 now so I can enable tethering again? Sounds like I should be able to, but I don't want to screw it all up since at least now I have a working phone. BTW Thanks for your help

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend custom 3.1.3 if you rely on unlock. It has no new features. You will have to backup Cydia apps (PkgBackup on Cydia), iTunes should take care of all the other data (remember to sync your iPhone to iTunes and let it perform a full backup..)..
I don't rely on unlock since I have AT&T as my provider. The issue is everything I have installed and customized.
Well in that case, follow Cydia and iTunes backup properly and you should be golden!

You will have to join them using hjsplit as described.
If i update my iphone 3gs new bootrom..which is currently on 3.1.2 unlocked and jailbroken, as i'm using it with tmobile..if i use the frimware thats for tmobile users.. can i still use the phoen for tmobile once its restored by this frimware?
i'm only restoring before my device is stuck on connect to itunes loop and nothing with crack it.. not even blacksnow for the thethered jailbreak and no irecover or nothing.
tried to restore it… got error 1600 and 1604 twice i tried.. gonna try again… aso it takes a loong time to extract frimware iuno if thats normal it takes about a min to 2 mins..
3.1.3 is not suggested for those who rely on unlock..hope you have stored your shsh files on Cydia…

i download 3.1.3 3gs activated firmware every went smooth but i didn't get signal and say NO SERVICE then i thought of installing blacksnow via cydia but it got stuck at end of the installation of blacksnow i waited n waited but no respond, then i did master restore now i got stuck with boot logo that is broken apple logo and i tried to connect with itune. but itune didn't detecting iphone
i tried to put in DFU mode, recovery mode but nothing has been workout .

3.1.3 3GS cannot be unlocked (if baseband is at 5.12). If you don’t have SHSH files on Cydia, there is little we can do about unlock right now. You have to restore to 3.1.3 the normal way and wait for unlock to be released..
If you rely on unlocking, please stay away from 3.1.3 for now…

Did you store your SHSH files on Cydia? If not we cannot get back to 3.1.2. Let me know and then I can suggest you something better.
Hi, My iPhone 3GS is unlocked with ultrasnow and it is at 3.0(7A341), baseband: 04.26.08. can someone suggest steps to update the OS to 3.1.2 and unlock it?
Please follow the 3.1.2 guide. Before that, check the SHSH Cydia guide… You need to store your SHSH files NOW!
|I have a brand new 3g on 3.1.3, but cannot get any method to work. I have tried snowbreeze and failed. and the other restore methods. Windows detects the device in DFU mode but then its sits there preparing phone to restore and basically does nothing and eventually times out error 1601. I want to jailbreak on a legit carrier.

I'm new to all this, so forgive any idiotic questions – I just want to be 100% sure before I go ahead.
I recently bought a 3GS from a guy who originally bought it in the States in July 2009. He bought it locked to an ATT simcard. He got it jailbroken and unlocked in August 2009 time and then came out to the UAE. After that, the guy didn't update the firmware at all.
Now I have the 3GS and it's running on 3.0 OS. I'd like to update it to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 without losing the jailbreak or unlock.
Is it worth updating to 3.1.3? Should I wait till there is a simple jailbreak & unlock for 3.1.3?
Is the procedure described above safe for my 3GS? Should I use the 'Custom Firmware Not Activated Official Carriers'?

How can ultrasn0w be forbidden in UAE? It is just a piece of software residing on your iPhone, right? How can they do anything with it??
Whenever I start Cydia I get info that it couldn't contact the source for ultrasn0w because it is forbidden.
Oh wow, that is some serious internet censorship. I am not sure if censorship exists (in UAE) for dev team's unlock (ultrasn0w) but if it does, then it is pretty messed up!
ultrasn0w is the only unlock solution for iPhone 3G/3GS (certain basebands). I wouldn't suggest blackra1n which can screwup WiFi…
The upgrade worked perfectly – thanks a million. Got to sort out the unlock tomorrow – I know a place that bypasses the UAE proxy. The url for ultrasn0w is blocked (repo.666.ultrasn0w.com). The UAE sucks when it comes to Internet blocking (e.g Flickr is blocked!).

Same problem for me… I can't get the 251.3MB file.. only a 239MB file.. (3G: Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw) the part 1 is 175mb and the second part only give me 64mb.. help
Kiran.. I Have a PRoblem with the Sizes of the parts… first for 175 and second for 64mb.. (Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw) when I Joinit don't reach 251.3MB.. =(
Did you use HJSplit to join? Are you sure both downloads were fully downloaded. Check the byte size from the info given in the post.
The second part is a small file. The actual size being 67855 KB. Join them and see if iTunes recognizes the .ipsw.
Don't go with sn0wbreeze. Try blackra1n instead or check the download section (link on the top right) for the appropriate firmware…
Unfortunately enough, you cannot unlock at the moment. You can try jailbreaking though…

Recently I mistakenly did Reset of ALL settings and stuck on Apple logo. I can't restore to 3.1.2 as I didn't request SHSH copy from Cidia and afraid to upgrade to 3.1.3 for the reason of upgrading the baseband.
What woulfd you recommend to bring my phone back to life? Are there custom 3.1.3 that can be installed on the phone with "all settings reset" and don't upgrade the bootloader?

I would first check if the speakers do work. Play a video or something.
Let me know and then we can troubleshoot further. In the worst case, backup and restore the custom firmware…
Well in that case the only option is 3.1.3 custom firmware which doesn't touch the baseband. 3.1.3 and 5.11 baseband may not be a good match for unlock I heard. You can try though, no harm.

I purchased an unlocked iphone 3gs with 3.1.2 firmware. I am attempting to sync it into my itunes (am using vista) when the program asks if i want to upgrade to firmware 3.1.3. I mistakenly clicked yes and to make the long story short my iphone cannot be accessed now and can only handle emergency calls.

Unfortunately enough, it cannot be unlocked for now. You may try jailbreaking though, it should work but not the unlock given that you performed a 3.1.3 direct restore from Apple.
Now that everything is perfect, you have to install bootneuter to unlock the iPhone 2G. You will find it in Cydia. Check the article for 2G iPhone on this site.
Hi Numan! You have to use custom firmware to retain the unlock at 3.1.3 or 3.1.2. You will have to create a full backup in iTunes. Just connect it and iTunes will do the rest. After you jailbreak, you have to unlock again, it is simple and easy. I made detailed guides here.

I have no much experience with Sn0wBreeze. The one time I tried it failed on me. I prefer Dev Team tools. Try the Download links for your firmware.

Did you join the 3.1.3 file you downloaded? Does it have .ipsw extension?
?This custom firmware doesn't touch the bootloader nor the baseband? You might have the latest iPhone with the latest bootloader..

Did you try the 1600 solution guide? It is found in categories to the right – select 1600 from the dropdown…
Got an error 1600 with these instructions. At least it's something different than the 1604's I've been getting the majority of the time. I'm beginning to hate this stupid phone! I've been working on it for three days now!

Yes you can use any GSM network on your iPhone. Not so sure if you have your SHSH files stored on Cydia's server. If yes, then we can get the custom firmware 3.1.2 back on. Where did you download 3.1.2 custom firmware form btw?

Does this still work? I have a 3GS on 3.1.2 and 05.11.07 that I jailbroke with blackra1n and unlocked with ultrasn0w. It worked fine for a while but I had to reboot after installing an app in Cydia. Now it's stuck in recovery mode. I used blackra1n to try and get it out of recovery mode but it didn't work.

Lot depends on your SHSH blobs stored on Cydia or via any other means. Also depends if you rely on ultrasn0w or blacksn0w for unlock. In any case, if you are stuck, custom firmware does no harm to your baseband (unlock), so you may give it a go..

If you've got your SHSH blobs, why don't u just restore to Apple's 3.1.2 firmware and then run Spirit?!
I do have the same Model and I used Spirit to jail break my iPhone and it's really great and this took less than 30 Seconds to complete the Jailbreak. You can get the Spirit Jail break from the following link http://spiritjb.com/

I got the RC2 version. I have read on DEV team blog and also on other blogs that a 3GS iphone with 3.1.3 and 5.11.07 can be unlocked using RC2 only and not the latest RC3 version ..
You have 3.1.3 and 5.11.07 baseband is it? You may try blackra1n RC3 at this stage, there are no risks.
Regarding 1604 error, did you try DFU or restore mode?

I have a apple iphone 3g 16gb. I have 5.11.07 baseband . Everything works fine until i unlock my phone with blackra1n. Once i install blackra1n through cydia from the blackra1n repo. My phonehangs while reloading data then reboots after sometime and i can see the apple logo then after sometime it reboots again and so on.
What should i do?

I am not sure why but Custom Firmware + Spirit never failed in any 3GS iPhone so far… Strange… Did you follow the articles verbatim?
If it is already on 3.1.3 and was never jailbroken, you might as well skip custom firmware and go with Spirit Jailbreak instead…

Now I have to unlock it. I tried blacksn0w and after installtion in cydia, it got stuck on “reloading data”. I restarted it and got stuck on apple logo.
I installed the firmware again and it’s up now.
How can I unlock it?

I have tried that. First I tried to use blacksnow from cydia. after installation it got stuck on reloading data an then after restart got stuck on apple logo.
I restored it again and tried blackrain but when it says "done, waitng for reboot" iphone screen goes black and nothing happens. if I restart it everything is fine, but there is no blackrain there. any idea? thanks
blacksn0w should work for 05.11.07 baseband. Did you ever jaibreak before? Was it tethered or untethered? What is the model number found in settings-> general-> about?
I did jailbreak when I was using 3.1.2 with blackra1n, I am not sure what tethered or untethered means but I did it once while my iphone was connected to usb and I used the iphone for 6 months without any problems.

Spirit is for untethered jb, it will work. Pl follow Spirit jb post on
frontpage here. I cannot think of any other tips to try in this case!

if you need blacksn0w RC2, go to cydia, add http://cydia.pushfix.info in the source section and get blacksn0w RC2. I had exactly the same problem and now my iphone is unlocked and working.

and he stock in dfu recovery mode.
when i try to restore to 3.1.2 he said the i cannot restore to 3.1.2 only 3.1.3
But i dont want to upgrade it on itunes, so i tried to restore it with a cople of custom 3.1.3 to keep my modem 05.11.07 but it gives me a eror 1600
Can i do somthing about it?

Hey i have an iphone 3g and for some reason it doesn't read sim cards (i stuck my sim card in the wrong way and someone opened it for me and took it out manually) but now it doesn't even detects sim cards so i can't activate my iphone. I upgraded to 3.1.3 when blackra1n was "supposed" to be able to jailbreak iphone 3g but then geohot or some1 in quickpwn said that it was a mistake that they couldn't do it yet, so yeah now i have an unactivated iphone 3g (just stays at emergency call screen) I downloaded this firmware:

So it can activate my iphone, i joined it with hjsplit and when i go and do the shift thing to pick a firmware it just says the firmware is not compatible. This is what the final firmware (after hjsplit) is named:

The only thing I can think of is a corrupted, joined file. What is the exact file size and what about the .ipsw extension? For instance, do you see a .txt or .zip or jpeg extension on any of your other files?

Can I use a custom firmware to just activate the device (an use it as an iPod until an unlock is available)? and if so, which custom fw should I use? (considering that I already have bb 05.12.01 and fw 3.1.3).

Since you have 5.12 baseband already, there is no harm trying whatever comes to your mind – starting with custom firmware 3.1.3 activated. Then try Spirit JB for untethered jailbreak. Let me know if you have any more questions…
I tried a custom restore with iPhone2_1_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom.ipsw but I get the 1600 error. I then tried the host file trick, redirecting iTunes to saurik's server (as I have the blobs for 3.1.3 there) but I still get the same error (1600).
Note: I added the following line to the hosts file: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com . I hope it's the right IP.
Is there a way to get over this 1600 error? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry guys, but i have a question. I have a 3gs 32 Gb 3.1.3 05.12.01. When i bought it it was 3.1.2 05.11 etc. I updated the youtube fix when it stuck'd in DFU mode so i gave this little shine brick to a service guy who had make a mistake and now its 3.1.3 05.12.01…. Never mind…. But now i cannot activate it becouse i dont have the original sim (at&t) and im in Europe. If i restore the activated custom FW from this site can i use it for ipod until there is an unlock for it?

I erased the files a few days ago when o just gave up but it wasn't what it was suppose to be, it was like 156,XXX,XXX bytes and there was .ispw extensions just said:
iPhone1_2_3.1.3_7E18_Custom_Restore_Activated_iLikeMyiPhoneDotCom
And blckra1n just stays in entering recovery. It doesn't go past that
To by pass the 1600 error,
1. You just turn your iphone completely off and unplug the usb cable.
2. Hold the home button and plug the usb cable in.
3. continue holding the home button until you got a prompt which shows you iphone is in recovery mode.
4. Then you are good to go w/o any 1600 error.
If it is at 3.1.3 already, you may try the activated custom firmware. Try all the steps as detailed.
