iPhone 1.1.4 upgrade hasn’t been a trouble-free update for many. There really is no good reason to update to 1.1.4 at this time, probably SDK might need it in the future. So, you accidentally upgraded to 1.1.4, now what? How do we get back to a much better firmware?
Download 1.1.3 / 1.1.2 firmwares from this link.
I have followed these steps on a 4.6 BL iPhone as well as 3.6 BL iPhone. If you have used IPSF like unlock before (Gunlokc/iJailbreak/ZiPhone), then you can still follow these steps.
- Your 1.1.4 iPhone should preferably be activated using iNdependence.(Latest version 1.4beta5) (Quit iTunes, iTunes Helper from Activity Monitor (Type Activity Monitor in Spotlight, you should see it).
- Now, the downgrade to 1.1.3 is pretty straightforward. Just hold the ‘Option’ key (MAC) / ‘Shift’ key (Windows) and hit the ‘Restore’ button on iTunes and browse for the .ipsw file you downloaded (preferably 1.1.3 firmware). And hit ‘Open‘.
- It should start downgrading. One of my friends got weird error messages at this point. Like ‘error 2001’ and some other error. You might want to restart your Mac and iPhone and proceed to Step 1. (Look for steps 4,5 for Windows users at the end of this post)
- (MAC) If you get an error message 1015 it is absolutely fine. That assures you have 1.1.3 now 🙂 All you have to do is launch iNdependence to kick the iPhone from the DFU mode.
- (MAC) Now quit iTunes and iNdependence. Launch iJailbreak (Latest Version) and hit Unlock / Jailbreak depending on your requirement. If you are on ATT or an approved carrier, you may want to click Jailbreak or else Unlock is not a bad option either !!

iJailbreak installs installer.app by default (if you choose either Unlock or Jailbreak) and post a comment if you face any issues. You have a happy iPhone experience now!!
4. (Windows) It is common for error 1015 to pop up at this stage. It is time you download iBrickr. Quit iTunes and launch iBrickr. Click on ‘Boot the iPhone’. It should kick the iPhone out of DFU mode to boot into HomeScreen.
5. (Windows) Download ZiPhone. Now hit the ‘Do it all’ button if you never unlocked the iPhone. If you unlocked the iPhone before, you might want to hit ‘Jailbreak and Activate’ for installer.app to be glowing on your homescreen!
Thanks Ashlee for following my instructions and confirming they work on a Windows computer 🙂
Update : Probable fix for YouTube (Check at the end of the article).
Jake : Extract the zip file for the .ipsw to show up… (Right click on the file and extract..)
Now, hold the Alt/Option key on your mac and hit restore to select the .ipsw file …
kiran: i dont think you understand the problem…when it downloads it extracts into a folder with no .ipsw file….i downloaded ZiPhone and you can install .apps, but there are some that require 1.1.[123]
Jake come online, check your mail for my AIM for more help..
hello… i’m fairly new at hacking and i just have to say that this is the most straight forward site yet that i’ve encountered. I just got iphone last week and i’m looking into unlocking its full potential. I would just like to know if i’ve done nothing at all to the phone except foolishly upgrading to 1.1.4 should i click “do it all” on ziphone when running on a windows pc? thanks
Hey Victor, yep you can simply use ZiPhone or iPlus for 1.1.4… it can never get easier!!
Thanks… i’m ganna give it a try.
Well, follow iPLus/ZiPhone, both work great! They are definitely hassle free tools …
victor, if you have already activated it via ATT then all you have to do in Ziphone is Jailbreak….thats what i did just last night and I am still wanted to downgrade, but i guess its ok.
I also have a question to all the apple guru’s…what are the chances of my iphone getting bricked (in update 2.0/ anytime i sync)
The chances are close to zero seeing the wonderful iPhone community growing!! I am working on iPlus (video/guide) such that the process is completely reversible and SAFE for 2.0 !
yea i brought my iphone in the U.S and moved to the U.K my iphone has not been tampered with as far as sim unlock or 3rd party apps but i want to change my att chip for the o2 chip can anyone give me some advise
When i downloaded ibrickr it worked fine but there is no “boot the iphone” button to click on. Can somebody tell me how to get to the link boot the iphone
When i downloaded ibrickr there was no link “boot the iphone” it wasn’t in the ibrickr folder. Can anyone tell me how to find it?
I am afraid, you might have to restore the iPhone to the respective firmware again and then try either ZiPhone/iPlus…
Hi kiran im not sure how to extract the zip file for the .ipsw file to show up. Any tips? Thx
Kyle, let me know if you have a mac/pc and also elaborate on the firmware you are trying to extract….
Generally if the file has a .zip/.rar extension, right click on the file and click on extract to …
i have a mac and im trying to exctract the 1.1.3 firmware

hi kiran, just recently unlcocked my 1.1.4 iphone, it works fine except for the sms. I cant open my sms icon even if it says it has a new msg. What do i do? thanks
Hi kiran, I have downgraded in accordance with your instructions my 1.1.4 to 1.1.1 and unlock+jailbrake it by Independance but there is not Install.app on desktop now what is problem? I also tried Ziphone 2.4c with same result…
mikhail : You should have tried with the latest version of ZiPhone… I recommend iPlus though…. it works for sure….
when i download the firmwire from that link i try to select it from itunes and and there is no firmwire files…..
Download the firmware file to the Desktop and make sure the extension is .ipsw If it is in .Zip format, extract them to .ipsw and then browse from iTunes using Shift/Option key…
