We have all been using Ripdev’s find for taking screenshots on your 1.1.4 iPhone using the (toggle mute button + holding home button) trick. Apple no longer hides the screenshot facility in the beta firmware (iPhone 2.0 beta 5A240d build)
Just hold the Power/Sleep button and then hold the home button until you see a white flash like screen. The screenshots are saved in your camera roll (Photos) in PNG format.

The people from RipDev Team working on caterpillar found a hidden feature in iPhone. This feature allows you to take screenshots which are then saved in the camera roll. The best part being “Support for taking a screenshot of iPod, Youtube, locked home screen” … This makes it the first time we could achieve it the Apple way! It just requires to patch some variables in the SpringBoard file. To watch the hack in action –

UPDATE : With firmware 2.0, all you have to do to take a screenshot is hold the home button and the power button at the same time, you can find the screenshot placed under your Photos application.
Erica Sadun’s command line screenshot utility never really helped me (I still don’t know the exact command or where we have to type it – mac or the iphone!!). I was stunned to see the impressive quality of screenshots not to mention the way we take the screenshot of the iPhone though Youtube/iPod screenshots …
