iPhone Unlocked – WiFi,iPod Works with T-Mobile SIM

After iPhone launch fever,interesting details are popping up all over the internet. I was browsing to see if someone managed to unlock their iPhone and we can already see efforts headed in the right direction. A company reports that they have unlocked 2000 iPhones as I write this article. They are asking you for your email as well as the IMEI number. ZDNet says that they get Incorrect SIM: This iPhone must be used with an approved SIM error but WiFi reportedly works with a T-Mobile SIM. Apple is planning to release the same iPhone all over the world,hence a custom Mac OS X for iPhone reportedly exists and unlocking your iPhone can be a breeze!

Update : Alex King claims to have cancelled A&T service without losing a penny and is now using the iPhone both as an internet device (N800) and an iPod!! The phone part needs few tweaks which are being worked on 🙂iPhoneWorks.jpg

    Matt & Jeff: Hi! To date, there is no known hack to make the iPhone work with other carriers. iPod and WiFi works just fine though. All the claims of an unlock solution may be deemend ‘Fake’ for now. Watch out, lotta bad guys around!!

  2. Next step it to wait until my contract is up in June of 08. The other thing is even if my contract were up now I’m not sure the iPhone would meet my needs. I’m currently using a Treo 650 and a must have is to be able to work with Word & Excel.

  5. There has been lots of people who seems to have unlock their iphones, not only to use it as a PDA, but also the phone.
    Regarding unlocking it as a PDA there is lots of support on the net, so no need to be a compu geek, but on the phone part the only instructions are for Mac, so many of us are left out in the shade wishing for help and hopping we can get answers soon.
    I appreciate all helpfull people because their effort but i also stay sitti g tide for help

  6. I bought a Palm Treo 700p off eBay, the prices have come down quite a bit. Hopefully when my Verizon contract is up in July of 08 the iPhone will have some good 3rd party apps and I’ll switch over then.

    The iphone is interesting when it comes to push email. You'll get "like" push email from yahoo gmail etc if your on wi-fi. Providers that are pre set in the iphone.. Others that you have to pop or put in the settings yourself are not push.. You can set it to check your account every certain interval.. You want a true push email client better then the treo? One word Blackberry.

  10. Hi im Juan from mexico and I wonder if I unlock the iphone as you say I would be able to use it with a Sim card from Mexico AT & T would still charge me what it would be if I unlocked but I still want to use it in AT&T?

  12. im turning 16 next week and i have tmobile. can i use the iphone with tmobile or not? i have a sidekick 2 and an unlocked rokr e1 and i am tired of switching between the 2! i want a phone that combines the 2 of them! the iphone is! should i wait and ask for something else or get a iphone? it it anywhere near being unlocked to work with tmobile yet? i had cingular one before and hated it! tmobile gets much better service where i live and i like it a lot more than cingular! what should i do?

  14. Juan – Turbo Sim may be your first option for now as the proposed software hack is being delayed.

    Sunny – Of course we can do all of them after unlocking and yeah, it is way too close now!!

    Kelly – Belated wishes!! I think you know the answer for your questions – It is already unlocked for T-Mobile,just that the unlcok is being delayed. Yeah, people are using the unlocked iPhone all over the world (TurboSIM, Hardware unlcok procedures)… I urge people to invest in an iPhone – the all in one entertainment source!!

    Ashley – Yeah, the phone is Quad Band fortunately and yes, people in Canada are reportedly using the iPhone 🙂

  15. Too many conflicting stories! I just purchased two new iPhones. I want to unlock them. CAN THE IPHONE BE UNLOCKED? If so what am I giving up. I need an answer in plain english.

    I live in Denmark, but an American reative of mine is buying one for me, so I need an unlocked version..

  24. Hi.. i tried what u said about the internet apn.. i updated already but still doesnt work.. i have the iphone but i put a tmobile sim card.. i recieve calls txt everything but when it gets to safari, internet it doesnt work… what can i do?

  25. Cristina : You have to go to Settings -> Network -> EDGE and input your T-Mobile data settings :

    APN : wap.voicestream.com or internet2.voicestream.com and leave username and password blank.

    You might be charged for data, make ure you signup for $20 internet plan or you can use the WAP plan which is much cheaper…..
