Double your iPhone 3G Battery by using Mophie Juice Pack

Mophie Juice Pack is an absolute godsend given the fact that my iPhone 3G repeatedly gave up on me on numerous occassions. What good is all the technology if it cannot last for one day ( I mean 9 AM to 9PM at the least!) with regular usage (Emails, Camera, Apps, Safari, GPS) ? I started using the iPhone less frequently when I am on the go ( on a trip, …) trying to preserve the battery but doesn’t it defeat the purpose of owning the BEST gadget on planet Earth?! Even a brand new iPhone doesn’t stand for the whole day (with dimmed backlight of course!). 3G taking its toll may be but hey that is what we bargained for, right?

Mophie to your rescue! What it essential does is slap on an additional battery while it charges your iPhone, pretty sweet deal …. 2 batteries is something we all crave for when it comes to iPhone 3G! I will put it to stress test soon by using iPhone 3G as modem to access internet on Macbook on the go, it will be interesting to see how well it handles the power usage.

Take a sneak peak at my video review of Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone 3G. Priced at $99.95 a piece, this definitely is a worthy investment given their stand in the mobile industry. Much depends on how well the product will fare with time but for now it does its job just as we all hoped for!

Form Factor :

If you chose to buy iPhone 3G, you definitely would not buy a case or addon that is ugly or bulky! Mophie Juice Pack is elegantly designed with a smooth feel while offering a tight grip and even better functionality. No plastic or hard material used which might be discomforting to the iPhone 3G’s plastic casing! Perfect 100 on the design.

A four light indicator at the backside of the Juice Pack will let you know when to recharge it. The next time you are on the road trying to use GPS, make sure you lug the juice pack with you ‘cos iPhone 3G battery drains way too fast using 3G and GPS or is it NYC that is causing it!

Specifications from Mophie.com :

  • Standby Time – Up to 350 hours
  • Talk Time – Up to 6 hours on 3G | Up to 12 hours on 2G
  • Internet Use – Up to 6 hours on 3G | Up to 7 hours on Wi-Fi
  • Audio Playback – Up to 28 hours
  • Video Playback – Up to 8 hours

Some thoughts :

You charge the battery on both Mophie Juice Pack and ihone 3G at the same time using a USB cable rather than a wall charger, I believe we can use a regular wall charger which complies witht the mini-usb port and make sure you use the right voltage ratings or you might run the risk of frying the juice pack!

It adds some weight while charging the iPhone for sure sure but it is not awkward as seen in the pictures. It definitely gives a smooth touch, firm grip and even better – an extra battery!

What are you waiting for, go ahead and order one now! They should knock your doors starting October 30th!

Update : Though a wall charger is not included in the pack, you can use iPhone’s wall charger to charge them both at the same time! Thanks R G!

I emailed Mophie asking whether you can connect the mini-usb cable from the Juice Pack to the plug/brick that comes with the iPhone in order to charge the Juice Pack through a wall outlet. Mophie replied that you could.

Thanks R G, point noted! The juice pack doesn’t hold charge for long idle days though, I am still testing to get the best out of it! Meanwhile, stay tuned for Richard Solo 1800 review – an alternative to Mophie’s offering!
