Apple released iOS 4.2 for the masses finally. While it does some nice things on an iPad, there isn’t much for iPhone 3G/3GS/4 if you are happy with the current jailbreak+unlock.
You are urged to download TinyUmbrella and save your current firmware SHSH files. It is available on multiple platforms (Linux, Mac, Windows). The SHSH window for signing your firmware version is almost closed, so better hurry.
Cydia for 4.2 firmware doesn’t even work the traditional way, nor is there an unlock available as of this writing. So, kindly ignore the iOS …

Wow, Apple finally approved Google’s own awesome iPhone application, free on App Store (Download). There were paid alternatives previously which didn’t do justice to Google’s service at all.
Check some tips out to get the most out of Google voice and hey, stop paying that $20 bill for unlimited texts, will you?!
Google’s official announcement can be read here…

Update : The latest version of Redsn0w (Windows) can enable that tricky DFU mode on Windows! Macs can use the Pwnage tool to create the custom firmware itself…
Warning : This isn’t for the faint of heart. I did not post a detailed writeup cos’ DFU mode is kinda tricky on this one. If you know what this is and what it means, go ahead and try this. All others, please wait while other Windows users verify this.

The links are all interchangeable and you have all the mirrors you can ever …

Apple just released iOS 4.1 update, not a super important update for 3GS users (unless you are into GameCenter!). iPhone 4 users can finally relax given that iOS 4.1 comes packaged with a fix for those nasty sensor issues.

Before you do any thing, please quit iTunes and do the following. TinyUmbrella is what you need to save your iPhone from Apple’s anti-jailbreak updates.
Download TinyUmbrella for your Mac/Windows/Linux.
Install/Launch TinyUmbrella and save SHSH blobs for iOS 4.0.2 for 3GS, iPhone 4 from Apple (or Cydia after the SHSH blob signing period by …

iPhone 4 was recently jailbroken and now it is unlocked too, thanks to the Dev Team. It cannot be easier, no PC/Mac required, only the internets!
All you need are the following :

A Jailbroken iPhone 4 / 3GS,3G (it should be activated, that is a pre-req for online jailbreak)
A WiFi connection
That is pretty much it!

Step by step (best practices) :

Launch Cydia and search for ultrasn0w [if not found, then add repo : repo666.ultrasn0w.com in Cydia]
Install ultrasn0w and reboot your iPhone 4 when prompted. Turn 3G off  (Settings -> Network -> Enable …

iPhone 4, despite its signal woes is a beast when it comes to processing power and pure, raw speed (a lil’ better than 3GS). Jailbreaking iPhone 4 will give you access to themes, productive tools, unlock and more. I tested this approach with a 3GS, 3G and iPhone 4. It is a multi-iPhone jailbreak and requires no computer access! It is the same as described here but I wanted to document Cydia apps for iPhone 4.
Initially, I was unsure if Cydia is even needed for iPhone 4 with multitasking, wallpaper …

For a list of important Cydia apps and more screenshots, go here. Visit this page if you have an iPhone 4.
There is not much to write about this time around (no PC or Mac limitation)! Jailbreaking is perfectly legal btw!
All you have to do is :
– Make sure your iPhone is activated. It is not possible without a valid iPhone SIM. If you don’t have one, we must wait until another tool is released.
– Make sure you sync your iPhone to iTunes. This is important, just in case you know!

UPDATE : Google Voice app for iPhone is now available on App Store!
Apple hates people bypassing the carrier’s features on the iPhone. Google’s Voice application which provides free texts and some other super cool features, all for free was never approved on the app store. Why? The carrier will be losing their share on SMS tax (20 cents for 140 bytes – really?). Smart people use unlimited texts add-on which costs $20 with AT&T.  Smarter people use Google Voice! You are paying an awful lot of money for your cellular …

CAUTION : iOS 4 jailbreak is way complicated unlike other jailbreaks. Please proceed with caution.
Requirements :

Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with older bootrom.
You haven’t used Spirit jailbreak before (for untethered jailbreak).
You have Windows (PC). For Mac, try Pwnage instead.
Please read the above requirements again.

More info about these custom firmware files :

[UPDATE] : You need to download files from either step 1a or 1b depending on your baseband preference. Both are unlockable, so I would go with step 1b which is the latest baseband which supposedly does better with the battery. step 1b …
