1.1.3, downgrade, jailbreak »

[3 Feb 2008 | 7 Comments | ]

I upgraded an OTB 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 using Nate’s method. I found it to be a pretty not-so-complicated upgrade. Then I tried SummerBoard which made me think twice about using DevTeam’s jailbreak instead. SummerBoard posed so many issues with Nate’s 1.1.3 Jailbreak. So, following are the steps taken to downgrade a 1.1.3 Jailbroken (Nate) iPhone to 1.1.1 followed by an upgrade to 1.1.2 and then finally upgrading to 1.1.3 using DevTeam’s Jailbreak.
Files needed : 1.1.1, 1.1.2 firmware files.
Step 1 : Sync your iPhone to iTunes. Hold the home and …

installer.app pushed a new update today and Boss’ beta repository had a SummerBoard 1.1.3 fix file which I installed. Make sure you click on ‘Sources’ and ‘Refresh’ for the updates to appear. Then I tried installing SummerBoard 3.1-1 and got the ‘Main Script Execution Failed’ error though I see a SMB icon on the homescreen. Interestingly enough, I see a background wallpaper too!! When I launched SMB, I see no themes listed and then I tried installing some themes from installer.app which gave me the same script execution error. I …

1Password has finally released this wonderful bookmarklet for the iPhone. You no longer need to type those long Usernames and difficult to guess passwords!! Everything is taken care-of by 1Password;a nifty Mac application to secure your online activity.
Let us waste no more time and jump to the internals of this entire setup. You need the following to work :
1) iPhone
2) 1Password ($29.95, I have 2 copies from Macheist if anyone is interested)
3) Mac
Assuming you have 1Password from the recent Macheist bundle, let us configure the application on your Mac :

We tried saving some money, bought multiple copies but couldn’t find a Mac friend. We are both students ( CS Major). We are offering the last bundle for $98/3 ~ $33 . We prefer students with an .edu email ID. We might give it to an outsider if the students out there didn’t jump on time!
An alternative would be : $5 per App, yeah any app of your choice(Minimum 3). (paypal preferred). Not that we are desperate for money, just that we don’t have any use for this extra …

Yeah, Qtrax.com came out with an idea with a win-win formula benefiting the enduser as well as the artist 🙂 The service is available starting midnight (12 AM, Jan 28,’08). Though the company is trading at $0.09, the deal sounds so sweet that we all should give it a try. An ad supported service alright but just imagine FREE access to so many tracks. Since, Qtrax has tie-ups with reputable record labels and guarantee no spyware/adware nonsense with this service! Though available only for Win XP, Vista tonight, a Mac …

iPhysics Gaming engine is updated with a flicker free version. That makes it a very good platform for gaming! Make sure you turn the compatibility mode ‘On’ under ‘options’ in iPhysics to ensure smooth play 🙂 iPinball is my favorite game in iPhysics. It is a flawless port to the iPhone and I have managed around 50,000 in iPinball. Challenge me with your best score! Background sound may be irritating at times, sound effets are good though. You find the settings under ‘Options’ in iPhysics.
I have used a jailbroken 1.1.3 …

I had to buy a new iPhone OTB 1.1.2 with modem firmware 04.02_13G (week 52) to test a clean update to 1.1.3 . I have used a MacBook, OTB 1.1.2 iPhone, Cingular SIM(no iPhone contract), iTunes 7.6, iNdependence 1.3.2b and lot of enthusiasm!! I have heard about different reports and I wanted to check them out. Indeed it was one smooth upgrade to 1.1.3, thanks to Nate for his decision 😉
As stated, we need to start off with a Jailbroken 1.1.2 / 1.1.1 iPhone. OTB 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhones …

Last week has been a memorable one as far as 1.1.3 iPhones is concerned. We have heard of disputes amongst the developers, err hackers!! Everything narrowed down to copyright issues as far as Erica’s note is concerned. Some members of the Dev team and Elite team were in disagreement over the release of 1.1.3 jailbreak. Anyways, NerveGas breaks the news on a perfect Thursday 🙂 The entire jailbreak process is touted to take about half an hour if not more and the interesting part being : it is currently a Windows …

Amidst all this heated 1.1.3 firmware discussion, my utterly cautious friend Felipe who survived with 1.0.2 firmware ever since he bought it here at the United States had a panic attack when the iPhone stopped keeping track of the SIM in his unlocked iPhone when he reached Germany!! It was not reporting any SIM errors, not even incorrect SIM nor no SIM or the like. Then we had to some virginizing, restore and unlock of the iPhone. He got a Mac so it made things easier for a remote tech …
